BEST FILM, BEST ACTRESS &
BEST FIRST FEATURE AT THE CANADIAN SCREEN AWARDS

Pierreville, Quebec. End of summer.

Mylia, a timid 12-year-old, must leave her little sister and native countryside to enter high school. Lost in this new hostile environment, she meets Jacinthe, who introduces her to teenage rituals and absurdities, and Jimmy, a fierce young native from the neighbouring reserve with whom she secretly befriends.

Together, they will trace the contours of a new life. The age of the first times…

Director

Geneviève Dulude-De Celles’ first short fiction film THE CUT won the Best International Short Film Award at the Sundance FF in addition to dozens of other awards. It was an official selection in more than 80 international film festivals.

The following year, she released WELCOME TO F.L., a feature-length documentary that premiered at TIFF and won the Best New Talent award at RIDM along with earning two nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards.

A COLONY, her first feature drama, premiered at the Berlinale and won Crystal Bear for the Best Film (Children’s Jury Generation Kplus).

In addition to this, the film won the Grand Jury and People’s Choice Award - Canadian Feature Film at the Québec City FF, Best Canadian Film, Best Director and Best Performance at Whistler Film Festival, and the Best Canadian feature film at the Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie.

“Berlin hidden gem.”
“A Colony showcases an emotional
sensitivity and cultural specificity that
gives it a strong individual identity,
(...), handled with a quiet dignity by
both writer/director De Celles and her
accomplished young star Emilie Bierre.”
“Award-Winning
crowd-pleaser.”
